This pain-stakingly colorized photograph is based on an Warren K. Leffler’s original photograph, taken on August 28th 1963. A man surveys the 200,000 plus strong crowd from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. In what was one of the most memorable and effective political demonstrations in subject and organisation of all time, Martin Luther King would later deliver one of the defining and timeless speeches of the 20th Century. This image was commissioned by NPR.
